Getting around

1 min read

The subway, buses, the NYC Ferry and the Long Island Rail Road’s Atlantic Terminal connect Brooklyn with the rest of the city; many neighbourhoods are very walkable or bikeable. Routes and service change often, so check the MTA’s current maps and alerts before you travel.

For a first visit, the subway is the easiest way to move between neighbourhoods, but do not skip walking: Brooklyn’s brownstone blocks, parks and waterfront promenades are meant to be explored on foot. Citi Bike stations are common in the northern and central areas, and the NYC Ferry offers a scenic alternative along the East River.

See the Getting around chapter for a more complete guide to lines, buses, ferries, bikes and airports.
