Education and neighbourhood quality of life

1 min read

Brooklyn is home to Pratt Institute, Brooklyn College (CUNY), the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Medgar Evers College (CUNY), Long Island University Brooklyn, Brooklyn Law School, St. Francis College and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, plus the public schools run by the NYC Department of Education.

We do not publish crime scores or school rankings: they are easy to misread and change often. For safety data see the NYPD’s public crime statistics and NYC Open Data; for schools, the Department of Education’s school pages. Visit a neighbourhood at different times of day before deciding.

For schools, safety and transport in detail, see the new chapters on Schools, Safety and Getting around. They explain how the systems work and where to find official data instead of summarising numbers that change every year.
