Brooklyn offers a wide range of higher education. The City University of New York includes Brooklyn College, Medgar Evers College, New York City College of Technology and Kingsborough Community College, and CUNY tuition is relatively affordable.
Private institutions include Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill, a leading art and design school, NYU Tandon School of Engineering at MetroTech, Long Island University Brooklyn, Brooklyn Law School and St. Francis College. SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University trains doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
For adults, many of these schools offer evening classes, continuing education and English-language programmes, and the Brooklyn Public Library provides free classes in English, citizenship and computer skills. Ask about financial aid, since many students qualify for grants.
