JFK and LaGuardia airports are in Queens, and Newark Liberty is in New Jersey. From most of Brooklyn, JFK is reachable by subway and AirTrain or by LIRR from Atlantic Terminal, LaGuardia by subway and bus or a taxi, and Newark by NJ Transit rail from Penn Station in Manhattan; allow generous time, especially at rush hour.
If you drive, expect traffic on the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway, the Gowanus Expressway and the Belt Parkway, and be aware that driving into the Manhattan central business district is subject to a congestion charge. Street parking is governed by alternate-side rules that require you to move your car on set days for street cleaning; read the signs on each block and use the city’s official alerts.
Taxis, app-based rides and car-share services are widely available, and most Brooklyn neighbourhoods are easy to reach without owning a car. For a long stay, consider whether the cost of insurance and parking makes a car worthwhile.
