Find a job

The city’s Workforce1 Career Centers offer free job-search help, resume workshops, training referrals and hiring events, and there are centres in Brooklyn; the Brooklyn Public Library and many community organisations run similar services. CUNY and private colleges also provide career offices for students and alumni.

Union apprenticeships open the door to well-paid trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry and elevator work, and the city and non-profits run training programmes in health care, technology and construction. Search official job boards and be cautious with ads that ask you to pay a fee or send personal information before an interview.

Networking still matters. Business improvement districts, neighbourhood associations, faith communities and industry meetups often hear about openings first, so attend events and introduce yourself.
